Notary Services FAQs

A Notary is a qualified legal professional with the authority to witness signatures, administer oaths, and certify documents with an official seal for international use.

Notarisation is required for documents used abroad, such as education certificates, probate documents, or property deeds. A Notary verifies, certifies, and authenticates documents to ensure their validity internationally.

Common notary services include:

  • Verifying copies of original documents
  • Authenticating documents
  • Issuing Notarial Certificates
  • Administering oaths and statutory declarations
We aim to notarise your documents on the spot during your appointment. For urgent cases, same-day notarisation is available, including on-site visits for your convenience. Learn more on our Notary Process page or call (02) 9664 3030 to book an appointment.

At Horne Legal, we make the notarisation process straightforward and hassle-free. Your documents will be personally handled by Tim Horne, one of Sydney’s leading Notaries. Tim has the experience to manage even the most complex and urgent cases efficiently.

During your one-on-one appointment, Tim will:

  • Discuss your requirements
  • Identify the destination country, if applicable
  • Explain the notarisation, authentication, and legalisation process required by the receiving country
  • Provide a clear cost breakdown, including any fees payable to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Notarise your document on the spot if possible, preparing a Notary Public Certificate, which is either bound to your document or printed on the reverse side, with each page individually signed and sealed.

Please bring a valid photo ID, such as a current passport or driver’s licence, for identification.

To proceed with notarisation, we must ensure that you:

  • Fully understand the document, especially if it is in a foreign language.
  • Are aware of its legal effect when used abroad. If necessary, we may require a translation or a qualified interpreter.
  • Note: If you need legal advice on your document, this should be obtained separately before your appointment.

In NSW Notarial fees are determined by a recommended fee schedule. Check our Notary Fee page for more details
